THE ART:

MARITIME VISTAS

"Rhonda's Maritime art vistas allow people, including those that are restricted or unable to travel, to vicariously travel throughout the Maritimes."
Tiffany Bartlett, CEO Colchester and East Hants Public Library, Nova Scotia.

Although, I have been an artist for as long as I can remember (see History), I have often wanted to focus my art on strictly Maritime vistas.  I can draw anything, but my ‘go to’ art of choice is landscapes, and at this stage of my life and probably until my life ends – Maritime landscapes.

Maritime can refer to a couple of different things.  In Canada, it is often a reference to the Maritime provinces – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.  Nevertheless, Maritime literally means “by the sea”, therefore my horizons can broaden.  I have an abundance of material to work with – Nova Scotia alone has 150 lighthouses.   I love doing this Maritime Art. It is bright, beautiful and therapeutic – with this, I believe my art is giving others brightness, beauty and therapy.

My art is constructed through mixed media.  After I sketch out a scene, I usually use oil pastels for the skies, pencil crayon for the rest; soft 5—8B pencils for shading and definition, and then black felt for outlining the front ground for perspective.
